Week Commencing 21/09/09

This half term, we are discovering why the Romans came to Britain, what they found when they arrived here and the problems they faced trying to settle in Brittania. We are hoping to do lots of Art work on the topic and use interesting techniques to ommunicate our understanding.

Week Commencing 20/7/09

The school were entertained on Tuesday by Uncle Mal the Magician, as an end of term treat.

Sports Day

Key stage 2 held their Sports Day on Thursday 16th July.The weather held out for the event and great fun was had by all. There were joint winners this year - the blue and yellow teams. Well done everyone.

          

Year 3/4 have been making some very scary looking moving monsters. They have been made using empty Macdonald boxes and cereal boxes.They have designed and planned the moving monsters using a pneumatic system to make the monsters mouth m-o-v-e!!!

In ICT, years 3+4 have been learning all about internet safety. They have been watching 'Hector's World', which is on the Thinkuknow website.Hector's World is a fun way for children to learn about the dangers of the internet and what they should and shouldn't be doing on line.Click the link below to take a look for yourself.

Year 3/4 have been listening to stories from the Old Testament. The stories were about the people who waited for the Messiah. In Advent we are also waiting.

Week commencing 11/5/09

In RE, year 3/4 have been reading and understanding the story of Pentecost. They have examined the feelings of the friends of Jesus before and after the coming of the Holy Spirit.

                 

 

In Art, the children have studied different surrealist art and are now creating their own surrealist drawings using shapes and lines to portray a dream sequence.

In Science, years 3/4 are creating simple circuits. They are carrying out investigations into which materials make good electrical insulators. The children are also going to examimine the role of a switch in a circuit and understand how to carry out a fair investigation.

]Week commencing 27/4/09

Last week, year 3 literacy class discovered the practical significance of following instructions by venturing outdoors and washing a car! They learnt what items were needed for the job and when and how to use them in an ordered sequence of steps. It was really good fun and helped everyone to learn a new skill aswell.

Week commencing 30/3/09

A couple of weeks ago the children in years 3/4 went on a school trip to Lotherton Hall to continue their work on World War 2. They all had a wonderful time and learnt what life was like as a World War 2 evacuee.

The children have also visited the Grand Theatre to listen to Opera North's production of 'Peter and the wolf ' which is one of the topics they are studuing in music.

Week commencing 23/3/09

Over a period of 4 weeks class 3/4 JB have been working with an artist, Jo Lee, on an exciting drawing idea. They were able to choose to work with a range of mediums and they worked with a partner.Their 'Paper People' were the result of this extraordinary event. The documented work and This Image have been selected by a National Consultant on Drawing and may well be entered into a nationwide book on 'the power of drawing.' Well done to everyone in 3/4 JB. You are truly artists!!!

 

Week commencing 23/2/09

Class 3/4JB have been lucky enough to meet a local artist called Jo Lee. Over the next few weeks we will be taking part in some really exciting art work. We will be doing things that we have never experienced before. We are all getting really excited about it. We will post some pictures of ourselves doing our activities so watch this space.

Week commencing 2/2/09

As part of our poetry work, Year 4 have been working on creating simile poems.

Last week, year 4 were fortunate to be visited by a drama specialist. They experimented with drama techniques such as freeze framing and explored the feelings of different characters in their own plays.

On Friday morning 3/4 JB had an extra arts lesson. We were working on repeating patterns. We did sponge paintings with patterns put onto them.I enjoyed doing the sponge painting and tracing the round the fish template. Take a look at some of our pictures.

Class 3/4 JF have been looking at fossils.We went outside to see if we could find any. We found a starfish in the garden. All the rocks had a leaf pront on the bottom of them. We found lots of fossil plants. Millions of years ago these plants would slowly rot away. Some people dig for fossils. We all really enjoyed it

In year 3 we are looking at 2D and 3D shapes.We will be finding out about all the information to do with the shapes, like, how many faces, edges and vertices they all have. Sounds Fun! We might even make up some of our own 3D shapes as well and even paint them.

Week commencing 12/1/09

In our french lessons, the children in year 4 have been practising how they greet each other, ask how they are feeling, how old they are and what their name is. Listen to the podcasts below to hear our conversations.
