Welcome to Investors in Pupils

At Morley Victoria we are very proud of our Investors In Pupils status.  The staff and children work very hard together to improve and maintain the following five areas in the school:

1.  Behaviour

2.  Learning

3.  Attendance & Punctuality

4.  Classroom organisation and management

5.  Induction of new pupils and new staff

The school was last re-assessed on 26th April 2010 and the assessors looked closely at the above areas and in addition to finance, teamwork and pupil participation in the school.

Here are some quotes:

Behaviour

Children were very well behaved throughout the assessment day, demonstrating a polite, courteous and friendly manner at all times. Behaviour during assembly was exemplary; children listed to contributions and demonstrated a positive appreciation of other achievements.  There was a calm, purposeful ethos throughout the school.

There is a strong whole school reward system embedded across the school.  Pupils understand that points can be earned for good behaviour, effort, manners, and a range of achievements.  Children say they are happy and proud when they achieve points or targets.

Learning

One child said, ‘Having targets help us improve what we are not so good at, it makes you try hard to achieve more’.  Another child said, ‘Having individual targets makes you improve your personal skills.’  An older child said, ‘Class targets mean that we all are working together to get the award, it makes us a better class and we work together as a team.  We all have to help to get the class target, we’re all responsible.’

Attendance & Punctuality

The attendance strand of ‘Investors in Pupils’ is developed through a focus at whole school level.  100% attendance is recognised on a half termly basis through displays and awards.  Attendance is monitored on a daily basis and the Health and Wellbeing Manager supports individual pupils and families where there are specific concerns.  Children demonstrate an excellent understanding of why they come to school and the importance of attending school every day and on time.

Classroom Organisation

Classrooms are well organised, clean and tidy.  There is an obvious emphasis on good classroom management.  Displays indicate that the work of the children is highly valued and also used effectively to share information, for example about the school council or ECO developments.

Induction of New Pupils

All classes have induction booklets or presentations.  In many classes these have been used to support pupils or adults new to school.  Children are aware of their responsibilities for helping and befriending new children and staff.

Investors in Pupils across the school

The School Councils in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 are well established and play an important part in decision making in school.

Children take on wide ranging responsibilities.  For example, Year 6 pupils organise events and activities for the Friday Youth Group and Playground Helpers organise equipment and games.  Other responsibilities include: milk monitors, assembly helpers, fire officers, ECO councillors, Attendance officers and telephone assistants.  Younger children are also given the opportunity to take on a range of responsibilities within the class or classroom.  All classes recently took responsibility for planning and holding a fund raising event for Haiti.
